NAMA Marks Major Milestone with Successful Flight Calibration Exercise*

 The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has officially concluded its Flight Calibration Exercise with a formal Checkout Ceremony held at the Abuja Airport Technical Building, from 1:00 pm to 2:00 pm. The event, organized in collaboration with NAMA’s technical partners, AFIS LTD UK, brought together key stakeholders from Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The ceremony began with Engr. Miri Selzing, General Manager of Calibration, welcoming guests and stressing the critical role of the exercise in bolstering Nigeria’s aviation safety and technical independence.

Following the welcome, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, Managing Director/CEO of NAMA, delivered the keynote address. He commended the professionalism and resilience demonstrated by the pilots throughout the demanding calibration program. He highlighted the successful completion of the exercise as a key milestone in strengthening Nigeria’s indigenous aviation capacity.

During the event, Engr. Umar presented the pilots with new epaulettes and Certificates of Honour in recognition of their exceptional performance. Special commendations were given to two newly type-rated pilots from NAMA: Mr. Oyedele Oluwaseun Jubril, formerly a Radar Air Traffic Controller, and Mr. Ajijola Abdul Kareem, formerly an Air Traffic Engineer.

The ceremony was attended by notable dignitaries, including Mr. Tayo John, Director of Air Traffic Services; Mrs. Isemiuhonmon Rita Egbadon, Director of Legal Services/Company Secretary; Mrs. Iheanacho Terese, Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services; as well as senior officials, General Managers, and other distinguished guests.

In his closing remarks, Engr. Umar reiterated NAMA’s commitment to advancing self-reliance, operational excellence, and continuous human capacity development within Nigeria’s aviation sector.

The successful conclusion of the Flight Calibration Exercise marks a significant achievement in ensuring safer skies, enhancing local expertise, and reducing dependence on foreign technical services.
