Engr. Ahmed Umar Farouk Commissions Critical Facilities at Kebbi Airport—A Game-Changer for Safety, Service Delivery, and Staff Welfare

In a bold and visionary move to strengthen aviation infrastructure and enhance operational efficiency, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Ahmed Umar Farouk, has on Wednesday 14/05/2025 commissioned several key projects and facilities at the Kebbi International Airport, Birnin Kebbi.

This remarkable development, coming at the directive of the MD/CEO, underscores his relentless commitment to improving service delivery and safety standards in Nigeria’s aviation sector—especially in his home state, Kebbi.

Among the newly commissioned projects are:

1. Procurement and installation of two 60KVA generator sets for the Technical/Control Tower building.

2. Upgrade of the earthing system for both the Air Traffic Control Tower and NAMA Technical Building.

3. Procurement and installation of 20 units of stand-alone solar-powered security lighting systems for the ATC Tower and Technical Building.

4. Installation of 10 inverter-based cooling systems to ensure uninterrupted cooling and temperature control.

5. Renovation works at the NAMA Administrative Block and Control Tower, including the construction of a new security house and a functional borehole for water supply.

These comprehensive upgrades are strategically aimed at resolving the persistent challenges posed by unreliable public power supply, thereby guaranteeing uninterrupted power for critical airport infrastructure. This is particularly significant as the airport prepares for the 2025 Hajj airlift operations—where safety, seamless coordination, and reliability are non-negotiable.

With these systems now in place, air navigation services at Kebbi Airport will witness marked improvement in efficiency and continuity. The solar security lights will enhance safety within and around critical areas, while the newly installed inverter systems and generators ensure constant energy supply for mission-critical equipment and climate control.

In addition to boosting operational reliability, the renovation of administrative facilities and the provision of essential amenities such as the borehole and security house are expected to uplift the morale of NAMA staff and create a more conducive and secure working environment. These interventions reflect a deep understanding of the needs of both personnel and the flying public.

At the commissioning ceremony, the Airspace Manager, Mr. Bello Sahabi Birnin Kebbi, expressed heartfelt appreciation to the MD/CE, describing the projects as "a bold gesture and a clear demonstration of leadership that listens and responds." He conveyed the collective gratitude of all NAMA staff at Kebbi Airport and the surrounding community for what he termed “a transformational intervention.”
