Kebbi First Lady Vows to Eliminates TB In Kebbi State

The Wife of the Governor of Kebbi State, Hajiya Zainab Nasare Nasir Idris, has held consultative meeting with TB control officials to chart the efficacious course of action to eradicating the disease in the state.
Hajiya Zainab Nasare who is the Stop TB Champion of Kebbi state, gave the go ahead to conduct TB testing exercise to conform with the National TB Testing Programme next week.
The closed door meeting held at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, this Monday, was attended by the State Commissioner for Health, Alhaji Yunusa Musa Isma'il, the State TB and Leprosy Programme Manager, Mallam Shehu Auta Gele and other officials.
The Health Commissioner told journalists after the meeting that, they used the opportunity to congratulate Hajiya Zainab Nasare on her investiture as Stop TB Champion for Kebbi State by the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu.
The Commissioner added that the meeting also fine tuned the best strategy of implementing the policy of TB eradication in Kebbi.
"We affirmed our commitment to work in unison with Hajiya Nasare to fight the disease in her capacity as Stop the TB Champion. We will do our best to assist her to achieve the target objective of TB eradication", he disclosed.
Furthermore, he spoke about the importance of intensive mobilisation and sensitisation of people to be fully enlightened on the symptoms and effect of TB and the health remedy.
In his contribution, the State TB and Leprosy Programme Manager, Mallam Shehu Auta Gele, said the consultative meeting with Hajiya Zainab Nasare was the maiden meeting since her inception as Stop the TB Champion of Kebbi.
He thanked the Wife of the Governor for committing herself as active participant in TB control and eradication which has reinforced confidence and encouragement to the team in the onerous task of fighting the scourge.
"Statistics indicate that last year 12,000 cases of TB were officially recorded while from January - March this year, 4,546 cases have already been detected in the state. This necessitates collective action to surmount", he emphasised.
Mallam Shehu Auta Gele announced that there were 586 free TB and Leprosy testing and treatment centres in the State, advising persons with incessant coughing for two weeks at a stretch to go to the nearest health facility for TB test.
