Transforming Communities: How Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar Is Expanding Access to Clean Water

In a strong display of compassion, leadership, and commitment to community development, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, FNSE, FCIA, MCOREN, NPOM (Danmajen Gwandu/Gamjin Kabi), has continued to make meaningful impact across communities in Kebbi State through various humanitarian initiatives.

Through the Danmajen Gwandu Foundation, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar recently sponsored the drilling and installation of a solar-powered borehole at Malisa Islamiya School in Gwandu Local Government Area of Kebbi State. The project was carried out to address the persistent challenge of inadequate access to clean and safe drinking water faced by the school and the surrounding community.

For many years, residents, especially women and school children, struggled daily to access portable water for drinking and domestic use. The newly completed solar-powered borehole is expected to ease that burden by providing a reliable and sustainable source of clean water for both students and members of the community.

The initiative also supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly Goal 6, which focuses on ensuring access to clean water and sanitation for all. By investing in community-based projects like this, the Danmajen Gwandu Foundation continues to contribute toward improving public health, sanitation, and the overall well-being of rural communities.

Beyond water projects, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar has remained committed to grassroots development through several humanitarian and empowerment programmes aimed at improving education, supporting vulnerable groups, and uplifting living conditions across Kebbi State. Residents of Malisa community, including teachers, parents, and students of the Islamiya school, expressed appreciation for the gesture, describing it as life-changing. According to community members, the borehole will not only improve access to clean water but will also create a healthier and more conducive learning environment for children.

The use of solar energy to power the borehole further highlights the Foundation’s commitment to sustainability and long-term service delivery. With stable solar power, the facility is expected to serve the community efficiently for many years without dependence on expensive fuel-powered systems.

Speaking on the development, the Chairman of Gwandu Local Government Area, alongside members of the council, commended Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar for his outstanding humanitarian service and dedication to community development. The council described the project as a timely and commendable intervention that will have lasting benefits for the people, particularly students and residents of the area.

They also appreciated Engr. Farouk for consistently demonstrating generosity, compassion, and concern for the welfare of his people. According to the Chairman, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar has continued to emulate the admirable leadership qualities and humanitarian spirit of his father-in-law, His Excellency Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu, the Executive Governor of Kebbi State, who has remained committed to protecting the lives and property of citizens while ensuring that the dividends of democracy reach communities across the state.

The council further noted that initiatives such as the Malisa solar-powered borehole reflect a shared vision of service, development, and people-focused leadership. They added that such projects continue to bring hope, progress, and meaningful change to rural communities across Kebbi State.
