As election draws closer, opposition political elements are becoming more desperate and increasingly irresponsible in the way they dish out lies upon lies in order to, in their illogical thinking, make themselves electable even when, by their ignominious antecedents they are undeserving of it.

One of their tactics is to commission so-called political activists who masquerade and garbed themselves as human right activists but who, in reality are nothing short of merchants of lies with a price tag to their name.

One of them known as Dan Bello tried in vain to rubbish the achievements of Kebbi state Governor Dr Nasir Idris on account of an incident in a hospital in Kangiwa where a patient was snapped lying on a bed without a mattress.

But we are talking about a government that is just two years in office; a government which inherited a myriad of cases of dilapidation of infrastructures in all sectors; a government that has prioritized channeling resources at reconstruction, rehabilitation and remodeling of key infrastructure to drive the economy of the state and bring about sustainable development and a government that has achieved so much, to the chagrin of political opponents.

Who, betweeen past governments and the current one should be blamed for infrastructure decay which began more than twenty years ago? Is it fair to criticize a government which is just two years in office and which has began an ambitious rehabilitation and development program targeting key sectors across the state? The following are some of the intervention of the Kebbi state government in the health sector… and mind you, under just two years.

1. Complete rehabilitation of Argungu General Hospital costing over One Billion Naira. Work completed 100%.

2. ⁠Rehabilitation of General Hospital Jega which is ongoing currently.

3. ⁠complete rehabilitation of General Hospital Zuru earmarked to cost over One Billion Naira which has already been awarded.

4. ⁠Reconstruction of the General Hospital at Kuka Na Yelwa in Kalgo local government which has been completed 100%.

5. ⁠Rehabilitation of the General hospital Bunza where contractor has already been mobilized.

6. ⁠Rehabilitation of 14 Primary Health Care Centers across the state.

7. ⁠Renovation and equipping of the Drug Management Agency Office in Birnin Kebbi to enhance the Drug Revolving Scheme to make it more responsive, affordable and available.

8. ⁠Complete renovation of the Kebbi Central Medical Store for it to become more efficient.

9. ⁠The Sir Yahaya Specialist Hospital is undergoing a complete remodeling to widen its reach and reposition it to offer more specialized advanced services especially to women and children.

 As it is today, the General Hospitals in Koko and Yauri have been pencilled down for complete renovation and restoration to enhance services to the people of their catchment areas. All these are in line with Dr Nasir Idris’s plans and vision to improve their services to the people.

These efforts are ongoing and as resources permit, more hospitals and health centers will be visited with the same attention. It is a continuous process.

We should note that the same measure of attention must be given to other equally important and crucial sectors that have suffered same level of abandonment for too long.

How then can any sane person refuse to see all these gargantuan and commendable efforts and instead choose to see the absence of mattresses in one hospital even when these inadequacies have been there under past governments for upward of ten to twenty years? Why can’t they shift blame to where it’s suppose to be, and acknowledge the commendable understanding of the issues at stake by the present government as well as the vision to start to do something about them?

True patriots and lovers of Kebbi must realize that the recent upsurge in sponsored disinformation campaign seemingly targeted at rubbishing the progressive and forward-looking government of Dr Nasir Idris is an evil plan to return the state back to the okden days of infrastructure deficit which made Kebbi to be seen widely as unprogressive and backward. Have we forgotten when our state capital was being laughed at as Nigeria’s glorified local government headquarter and our state as Nigeria’s most backward?
