Dan'majen Gwandu Excels Again

NAMA MD, ENGR. FAROUK AHMED UMAR, RECEIVES WEST AFRICA GREAT LEADERS MERITORIOUS SERVICE AWARD FROM AFRICAN NEWS ORGANISATION

The Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, FNSE, MCOREN, NPOM (Danmajen Gwandu, Gamjin Kabi) was yesterday honoured with the West Africa Great Leaders Meritorious Service Award by the African News Organisation.

The award was formally presented at the NAMA Headquarters in Abuja by Mr. Mike Aidonmiyi, Managing Editor of the African News Organisation, during a courtesy visit to the agency. The recognition celebrates Engr. Farouk’s exceptional leadership, bold reforms, and outstanding service in advancing Nigeria’s airspace management systems.

The African News Organisation, a respected pan-African media institution known for recognising leadership excellence and institutional impact, noted that Engr. Farouk’s selection followed a comprehensive evaluation of his contributions to public service and aviation reform across West Africa.

Speaking during the presentation, Engr. Farouk expressed his appreciation, describing the award as both humbling and inspiring.

“This recognition means a great deal to me — not just personally, but for the entire institution,” he said. “It reaffirms our shared belief in visionary leadership, strategic teamwork, and a deep commitment to public service.”

Since assuming office in 2023, Engr. Farouk has introduced wide-reaching reforms at NAMA, focused on repositioning the agency as a model of excellence in airspace management. Under his leadership, NAMA has cleared long-standing staff arrears, ensured prompt salary payments, introduced comprehensive capacity-building programmes for Air Traffic Controllers, and deployed modern air traffic management systems nationwide.

He dedicated the award to the NAMA workforce, commending their resilience, dedication, and professionalism. “Every achievement we have recorded is the result of our team’s collective effort and drive,” he said.

Engr. Farouk reaffirmed NAMA’s commitment to raising the bar in safety, innovation, and operational excellence across Nigeria’s aviation sector. ”We will continue to push boundaries and set new standards that position Nigeria as a leader in global airspace management,” he added.

As this well-deserved honour is celebrated, heartfelt prayers are extended to Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar and the entire NAMA management and staff.
