SMC: KEBBI LEADS IN CAMPAIGN AGAINST MALARIA ....Vows To Maintain The Tempo

The World Health Organization (WHO) sponsor intervention tags Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) Kebbi State implementation unit is on course towards achieving the objective of the intervention.
In a special media parley held on Wednesday, 12/7/2023 at Kebbi State Primary Health Care Agency, the State Project Manager, Alhaji Nasiru Zagga said the major objective of SMC is to prevent malaria in children under the age of 5, he further highlights the success story of the intervention so far to include successful reaching out more than 1 million children under the age of 5 across all the 21 local governments in Kebbi State.
He also explained that SMC is a combination of 2 antimalarial drugs given to eligible children 3 to 59 months during the rainy season to prevent malaria.
According to him SMC intervention was introduced in Nigeria since 2007 but extended to Kebbi State in 2020, at same time Kebbi State rated best in Nigeria in carrying out the campaign in 2021, a success he vows to maintain.
He solicit the assistance of media in the state to help in reaching out nooks and crannies of Kebbi State for the propagation of the objective and activities of SMC.
The SMC intervention so far recruited thousands of personnel ranging from supervisors, lead mothers, town announcers, community drugs distributers, health facility workers and others.
This years full activities is scheduled to flag off on Thursday 13/7/2023 at Emir of Argungu palace, Argungu local government.
Representatives of all the media houses in Kebbi State such as Kebbi Radio, Kebbi TV, Farin Wata Tv, Vision FM, Equity FM, Rayhaan Radio, Kebbi -Trust among others were in attendance.
