MEET HON.HALIMA HASSAN TUKUR YAURI: FIRST ELECTED WOMAN FROM SOKOTO CALIPHATE AND HOW SHE SOLVED THE PROBLEM OF ELECTRICITY IN YAURI EMIRATE

Hon. Halima Hassan Tukur Yauri a trained Nursing turned Politician prove far beyond any reasonable doubt that 'anything a man can do a woman can do better.

When she was elected into the House of Representatives, representing Yauri/Shanga/Ngaski Federal constituency in 2007 and 2011, Yauri emirate was struggling with two major problems; Electricity and Portable drinking water.

She waste no time and hit the ground running, she first confront the problem of electricity and successfully addressed it throughly. Yauri emirate is now one of the region in Nigeria enjoying fair stable power supply.

HOW DOES SHE DID IT?

This is very important question because;

- Yauri emirate produced a military Governor but failed to do it

- Yauri emirate produced a civilian Governor but failed to do it

- Yauri emirate produced a Minister of the Federation but failed to do it

- Yauri emirate produced, SSG, Deputy Governor, Commissioners, permanent Secretaries name it but all failed to address the duo problems of Electricity and Portable drinking water bedeviling the emirate.

Surprisingly, Hon. Halima single handedly did it; hence her nick-named 'SAI MAI BUJE',( which can be interpreted as Men have failed), Yawurawas was so impressed with Halima's effort to the extent of conferred on her  two traditional titles:

1- JARUMAN MAI MARTABA SARKIN YAURI ( The Knight of Emire of Yauri)

2- GIMBIYAR NGASKI (The Princess of Ngaski kingdom)

To cut the story short, she brilliantly confronted the problems of Electricity in the emirate and solved it headon as follows:

1- She Successfully provided Stepdown power plant at Yauri worth N1.4Billion

2- She provided power sub-station at Yauri worth N250Million

3-  She provided another power sub-station at Ngaski worth N250million

4- She replaced all the higher tension wires in Yauri

5- She provided 15 standard transformers and installed at appropriate locations

6-  She then provided solar street light to all 30 wards in Yauri, Shanga and Ngaski local governments.

These Halima's historic efforts marked the end of Electricity problems in Yauri emirate. 

Presently, Yauri is one of the town enjoying stable power supply in Nigeria.

She started addressing water problems by providing boreholes in all 30 wards in the emirate, construction of  Dam at Birnin Yauri among others,...then a Court ruling replace her with Hon. Umar Uba, since then no any meaningful progress is recorded by her successors.

Hon. Halima is currently took it upon herself to train thousands of women in various skills, she established skills acquisition center in both Yauri and Birnin Kebbi all aims at empowerment of women and youth to meet their potentialities.
