NAAE Confers Special Recognition on NAMA MD, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, at Annual General Meeting in Lagos

The National Association of Air Traffic Engineers (NAAE) has conferred a Special Recognition Award for Industry Support and Impact on the Managing Director of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to the aviation industry and his consistent support for the air traffic engineering profession.

The award was presented at the Association’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) held in Lagos, with the NAMA Managing Director represented by Engr. Ijeoma Terese Ihenachor, Director, Safety Electronics and Engineering Services.

Speaking on the significance of the honour, NAAE described the recognition as a “family award,” noting that Engr. Farouk is a proud and long-standing member of the Association and a former Director of Safety, whose rise to the helm of NAMA is a source of collective pride to air traffic engineers nationwide. The Association stated that it was a proud moment for NAAE to witness one of its own emerge as Managing Director of the Agency, describing his appointment as a testament to professionalism, dedication, and institutional loyalty.

In his appreciation message, Engr. Farouk expressed profound gratitude to the Association for the honour, describing the award as deeply meaningful and humbling. He acknowledged that his achievements and the strides recorded under his leadership at NAMA have been made possible through the unwavering support and enabling environment provided by the Honourable Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, Esq., SAN, and the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

Engr. Farouk acknowledged that the visionary leadership of President Tinubu and the reform-driven guidance of the Honourable Minister have created a climate that encourages professionalism, innovation, and excellence within the aviation sector. He reaffirmed his loyalty and commitment to the administration’s aviation development agenda, pledging continued dedication to safety, efficiency, and the advancement of Nigeria’s airspace management systems in line with national aspirations.

He concluded by reiterating his resolve to justify the confidence reposed in him by the Federal Government, while continuing to uphold the values of integrity, service, and national interest, noting that the recognition by NAAE further strengthens his determination to deliver sustainable growth and global best practices for Nigeria’s aviation industry.
