Gov. Idris Ask AGILE to improves in its activities,reaffirmed his unwavering support to the project and education sector

The Kebbi State Governor, His Excellency Dr Nasir Idris(Kauran Gwandu) asked Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) programme to improve in it's activities and also patronize local contractors in the state.

 

The Governor made this known at the Government House, Birnin Kebbi, on Friday when he received a delegation of the World Bank Team and National Project Team.

 The delegates led by Mr. Shinsaku Nomura, was in the State to review the activities of AGILE project in Kebbi State.

In a welcome address to the delegation, Gov Idris expressed appreciation for their two-day working visit .He reiterated that his administration places high priority on education, teachers’ welfare, and infrastructure development. 

He raised concerns over certain operational lapses and assured that he would personally meet with the team in Abuja to address and resolve the issues amicably.

He specifically condemned the secretive award of a ₦7.8 billion contract without the involvement of Kebbi-based companies, which led to the removal of some officials connected with the process.

He therefore, asked the project to patronize local contractors in the state.

The Governor insisted on transparency and fairness in contract awards, stressing that qualified local contractors should not be sidelined in favour of outsiders.

In his remarks, Mr. Shinsaku Nomura, Task Team Leader and Senior Economist for the AGILE project, expressed gratitude to the Kebbi State Government for the warm hospitality extended to the team.

He explained that the delegation had visited several school construction sites, existing schools, and interacted with teachers, students, communities, and school-based management committees to assess ongoing efforts and discuss areas of improvement. 

AGILE project in Kebbi State has so far successfully executed about 8,000 different projects including constructions and renovation of classrooms, fencing, hostels, classrooms furniture, wash facilities etc in more than 300 secondary schools in the state.

AGILE also engaged many communities in nooks and crannies of the state to promote awareness about the project.

Kebbi AGILE also provided financial support to more than 20,000 schoolgirls to encourage retention and academic excellence

The project also achieved more than 40% increase in girl's enrollment in secondary schools across the State.

AGILE project in Kebbi State also trained thousands of girls in different skills as strategy to help them reach their economic potential.

These achievements highlight the transformative impact of AGILE project in Kebbi State, significantly improving educational access, retention and outcomes for adolescent girls while fostering broader community development.
