WHY DAN’MAJEN GWANDU IS SUPPORTING PRESIDENT TINUBU

The Untold Story of His Appointment as MD of NAMA Weeks Before Retirement

Every professional aspires to reach the peak of their career. For an academic, it is to become a professor; for a civil servant, a Permanent Secretary or Director; for a police officer, the Inspector General; and for those in federal agencies, the dream is to one day lead the organization as Chief Executive Officer (CEO).

For Engineer Ahmed Umar Farouk (Dan’majen Gwandu), current MD of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), this aspiration was no different. Yet, what makes his story unique is not the dream itself, but the extraordinary way Allah fulfilled it—just two weeks before his retirement.

Years of Service and Dedication
Engineer Farouk rose through the ranks at NAMA with integrity, dedication, and excellence.Recognized and honor by the late President Muhammadu Buhari for his outstanding service. Engr Ahmed Umar Farouk became one of the most senior Director at the agency. In fact, record shows that he was recommended for the appointment as MD at least seven (7) times during Buhari's tenure. Yet, each time his appointment was blocked.
 The Blockade from Within

The blockade of his elevation to MD was not by outsiders, but by a powerful minister from his own state of Kebbi. This minister, despite sharing the same state, same emirate, religion, and tribe with Engineer Farouk, consistently frustrated his appointment as MD.

Political analysts believe this actions stemmed from fear of competition in Kebbi’s political space; meaning the said former powerful minister feared empowering fellow Kebbians who might later rival him in the political arena, particularly in the race for Kebbi Governorship. Ignoring the fact power belongs to Allah and no amount of maneuver can make one actualized his political ambition.

The Hand of Fate
Allah's time is the best of all times and all power belongs to Him alone; then came the twist of fate. Just two weeks before his retirement, Festus Keyamo SAN, the new Minister of Aviation under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, recommended Engineer Farouk’s appointment. Unlike the years of resistance he faced, this time, President Tinubu approved it immediately ('faka-faka').
Engineer Farouk finally became MD of NAMA—achieving the peak of his career when many thought it was impossible.
 His Impact and Legacy
Since assuming office, Dan’majen Gwandu leadership role as MD, NAMA suggests he has demonstrated expertise and commitment to the aviation sector. His appointment reflects his qualifications and experience in managing complex organizations. He contributed to aviation development nationally.
Kebbi State in particular benefited from Dan'majen Gwandu exemplary leadership in the sense that:
• He employed numerous youths.
• Modernized Sir Ahmadu Bello International Airport, Birnin Kebbi to mention but only few.

Meanwhile, the once-powerful minister who blocked Dan'majen Gwandu career progression is now facing serious challenges, including investigations by the EFCC, and has politically drifted into uncertainty.

A Matter of Gratitude and Justice

Now, let’s reflect:If you were in Dan’majen Gwandu’s shoes, would you support a president from another region, who within hours of receiving a recommendation, approved your long-awaited appointment, changing the story of your career forever?

For Dan’majen Gwandu, the answer is clear. His support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not merely political—it is deeply personal. It is an expression of gratitude, loyalty, and moral obligation to the leader who, when it mattered most, gave him the opportunity his own kinsman denied him for years.

This is the untold story of why Dan’majen Gwandu is standing firmly behind President Tinubu.
