Traditional Honour for NAMA MD: Engr. Umar Farouk Crowned 'Agunechemba 1' by High Chief Pa J.O. Chuku

In a moment of pride and celebration, the Managing Director/Chief Executive of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Engr. Umar Ahmed Farouk (Danmajen Gwandu / Gamjin Kabi), was conferred with the prestigious traditional Igbo title “Agunechemba 1 of NAMA” — “The Lion That Guides the City.”

The honour was bestowed by High Chief Pa J.O. Chuku (Aka na Echako 1 of Isiala Item) on Monday, July 7, 2025, in front of a gathering of NAMA staff at the Enugu Airport, where the Chief also authorized the symbolic capping of Engr. Farouk with the revered traditional Igbo warriors’ cap — a gesture of great cultural significance.

Joining in the celebration was the Director of Engineering Services, Engr. Mary Ijeoma, who proudly witnessed this symbolic recognition of the MD’s steadfast leadership and commitment to service.

The title “Agunechemba 1” reflects Engr. Farouk’s unwavering commitment to excellence, his passion for aviation development, and his tireless advocacy for staff welfare and institutional growth — values that have firmly positioned NAMA among the continent’s leading Air Navigation Service Providers.

NAMA staff from various departments extended warm congratulations to their MD/CE, viewing this cultural honour as a well-deserved milestone for a visionary leader who continues to steer the agency with wisdom, humility, and integrity.
