Emir confers traditional tittle of Garkuwan Zuru on Gov. Idris

The Emir of Zuru in Kebbi State, Sami Gomo II, retired Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Sani Sami has conferred a traditional tittle of Garkuwan Zuru on His Excellency, the Governor of Kebbi State, Comrade Dr Nasir Idris.

Alhaji Ahmed Idris, Chief Press Secretary to the governor disclosed this in a statement issued to Journalists in Birnin Kebbi on Sunday.

Idris quoted the emir as saying this in a letter dated Oct. 30, 2023, personally signed by the Emir and addressed to governor.

The letter reads in parts: "His Royal Highness, Maj.-Gen. (Dr) Muhammadu Sani Sami CON, mni, FICEN, Sami Gomo II , Emir of Zuru, Chairman, Zuru Emirate Council, has approved to confer on you the Traditional Tittle of GARKUWAN ZURU with effect from 1st October, 2023.
"The conferment of the tittle is based on the Emirate Council's recognition of your extended valuable support and contributions to the promotion of peace, unity and development in Zuru Emirate.

"The terms on which this tittle is conferred is as follows: The use of this tittle is personal to you and may not be transfered to another person."

The Royal Father noted that the appointee was expected to serve as an adviser to the Emir on all matters affecting Zuru Emirate, adding that the Emirate Council awaited written acceptance letter from the governor as an indication of interest.

"Please note that you may consider to arrange for your turbanning between 1st Nov. 2023 and 30th Jan. 2024. In the alternative, we suggest you be turbanned in April 2024 during Annual Uhala Festival in Zuru, Kebbi State," he advised.
