NAMA MD Leads Delegation to Germany to Modernize Nigeria’s Airspace Communication

The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has taken a major step toward upgrading the country’s aviation infrastructure with a high-level technical visit to Germany led by its Managing Director, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar. 

The delegation is currently at the Rohde & Schwarz factory in Germany for a Factory Assessment Test (FAT) of critical communication equipment aimed at enhancing air-ground communication across Nigerian airspace.

NAMA officials are expected to hold high-level technical discussions with Rohde & Schwarz engineers during the visit. 

Speaking during the visit, Engr. Farouk expressed optimism that the new equipment will “further boost upper airspace communication in the country”. He noted that the upgrade aligns with *President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment* to enhance safety through modernizing airspace infrastructure. 

The modernization is expected to improve safety and efficiency for pilots and passengers, while ensuring seamless communication in remote and oceanic airspace where VHF coverage is weak. 

This Germany visit adds to NAMA’s wider infrastructure overhaul. The agency has also recently Commenced a historic FIR Audit across Nigeria’s airspace, the first in NAMA’s 25-year history, courtesy of visionary MD, Engineer Ahmed Umar Farouk (Danmajen Gwandu/Gamjin Kabi).
