The Inspiring Journey of Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, FNSE, FCIA, MCOREN, NPOM (Danmajen Gwandu/Gamjin Kabi)
The inspiring journey of Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, FNSE, FCIA, MCOREN, NPOM (Danmajen Gwandu/Gamjin Kabi), who rose above all odds to become the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), is a clear reflection of divine destiny.
A closer look at the lives of successful individuals shows that no success story is complete without challenges and obstacles. However, when God has destined someone for greatness, no amount of opposition can stop it. What the Almighty has ordained will surely come to pass, regardless of the forces that may try to stand in the way.
Before his appointment as Managing Director, Engr. Farouk served as the Director of Safety Electronics and Engineering Services at NAMA and previously as a General Manager. During those periods, he faced significant challenges, including attempts by certain individuals to push him out of the corporate headquarters in a bid to sabotage his efforts and hinder his progress. Despite these obstacles, he remained focused, resilient, and committed to his goals.
This story serves as a reminder and inspiration to aspiring individuals that the road to success is never without difficulties. Challenges should not discourage or distract anyone from their purpose. Instead, they should strengthen one’s determination to succeed, no matter the opposition.
Today, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar serves as the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of NAMA, while many of those who once tried to undermine him are no longer in the system. He is now actively engaging with prominent leaders across the country, including governors such as H.E. Dr. Nasir Idris (Kauran Gwandu) of Kebbi State, Dr. Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State, H.E. Umar Bago of Niger State, H.E. Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum of Borno State, Senator Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed of Bauchi State, and H.E. Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, among others.
Since assuming office, he has been transforming Nigeria’s airspace through modernization efforts, including the installation of advanced navigational aids across NAMA stations. His leadership style has also positively impacted staff welfare, earning him praise as one of the most hardworking and staff-focused Managing Directors in the history of the agency.
Many have commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Honourable Minister of Aviation, Festus Keyamo, for supporting Engr. Farouk’s vision and appointing him to lead NAMA at this critical time.
Currently, there are speculations about his possible transition into politics. Some stakeholders believe he should be given the opportunity to serve his people in a broader capacity, especially considering the impact he has made without holding an elected office. They are hopeful that leaders such as H.E. Dr. Nasir Idris, Senator Aliero, and H.E. Abubakar Atiku Bagudu will support him should he decide to pursue this path in 2027.
However, others feel his departure from NAMA could create a significant gap that may be difficult to fill, given his contributions and leadership style. While some wish for him to remain in his current role, it is understood that every leadership position has its time and season.
Ultimately, the future lies in the hands of Almighty Allah and the decisions of key stakeholders. It is our prayer that Allah grants him guidance and opens the right doors for him at this critical moment in his journey. Ameen.
