GAMJIN KABI ATTENDS ARGUNGU FISHING FESTIVAL

GAMJIN KABI GRACES DAY 3 OF ARGUNGU FISHING FESTIVAL

The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Engr. Farouk Ahmed Umar, FNSE, FCIA, MCOREN, NPOM (Gamjin Kabi), on Friday attended the third day of the Argungu Fishing Festival in Argungu, Kebbi State.

Established in 1934 as a peace celebration between the people of Argungu and the Sokoto Caliphate, the festival has grown from a local fishing competition into one of Nigeria’s most celebrated cultural events. In 2016, it received global recognition when UNESCO inscribed it on the Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

Engr. Farouk, who holds the traditional title of Gamjin Kabi under the Argungu Emirate, has participated in the festival since Day One. Speaking during an interview with Kebbi State Television (KBTV), he commended the organizers for what he described as a highly organized and successful event.

He also paid tribute to His Royal Highness, Alhaji Samaila Muhammad Mera (CON), the 33rd Emir of Argungu, praising his visionary leadership, commitment to cultural preservation, and dedication to promoting unity and progress within the Emirate.

Engr. Farouk further applauded the Kebbi State Government under the leadership of H.E. Dr. Nasir Idris Kauran Gwandu for its strong support and strategic efforts in ensuring the success of this year’s edition. He noted that the governor’s foresight and development-driven agenda are positioning Kebbi as a leading tourist destination in the North-West and Nigeria at large. He expressed optimism ahead of the expected visit of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the visit would further highlight the developmental strides being recorded in the state.

He prayed for sustained peace, unity, and continued development in Kebbi State, expressing hope that the people will continue to live in harmony and witness greater progress in the years ahead.
