EFCC Invitation: MD, NAMA Writes Malami; Exonerates Gov. Idris

STOP THE BLAME, LET THE TRUTH STAND - GOVERNOR NASIR IDRIS IS INNOCENT

There comes a time in public life when honesty must speak louder than politics. Over the years, Nigerians have watched how changes in government have brought storms upon some officials, especially people like Col. Sambo Dasuki (rtd.) and Mohammed Bello Adoke, SAN. They went through long, painful ordeals during the period when Abubakar Malami served as Attorney-General. Whether one agrees with the allegations against them or not, the truth is that they were handled in a way many still describe as harsh, relentless, and at times deeply unfair. They bore their trials in silence, and when the storm passed, they withdrew from the public arena and chose peace.

Ironically, the wheel of life has now turned, and Malami himself stands before the same system he once defended. The EFCC is questioning him on matters that have lingered for years — long before he ever left the APC and long before anyone spoke of future political ambitions in Kebbi State. These are national issues, involving federal funds and international transactions. They did not begin yesterday, and they certainly were not created by any individual in Kebbi.

This is why it is painful and disappointing to see some people now trying to point fingers at Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu. It is wrong, insensitive, and simply not true. Dr. Nasir Idris has no hand whatsoever in the situation Malami is facing. Dragging his name into something that does not concern him is unfair to a man who has dedicated himself to nothing but service.

Kauran Gwandu is a leader who wakes up every day thinking about Kebbi State — its challenges, its dreams, and its people. He has never been known for vindictiveness or petty politics. He has no reason, no motive, and no authority to interfere in a federal investigation. The EFCC does not answer to him. Their mandate is national, their authority is federal, and their investigations are independent. If the EFCC invites you, you go. If they give you bail conditions, you obey. That is how the rule of law works.

Many Nigerians have gone to the EFCC to clear their names. They fulfilled their bail conditions quietly, respectfully, and went home. No one is too big to answer questions when the law calls. If Malami believes he is innocent — and he has every right to defend himself — then he should simply clear his name just like others before him. That is the honourable thing to do.

What does not help him is arrogance or disregard for the terms set for his bail. When you appear before EFCC, there is no “big man.” Everyone is equal until the law decides otherwise. If you create tension or act above the process, the tune of the music changes — that is the same system he once used against others. Today, he must follow it like every other citizen. The same standard that applied to Dasuki and many others applies to him now.

And through all this, Governor Nasir Idris remains focused, undistracted, and unshaken. He will not allow himself to be deceived or disturbed by disgruntled elements trying to tarnish his image just to score cheap political points. Kebbi State cannot be pulled backward by the bitterness or frustrations of a few individuals. The governor has work to do — real work that touches real lives. He has no time for manufactured accusations or political theatrics.

Blaming a good man for something he knows nothing about is wrong. It is unjust. It is dangerous. Governor Nasir Idris is innocent, and his record speaks for him. Those attempting to drag him into this saga should allow the law to take its course and let each person answer for their own stewardship.

In the end, truth does not need noise. It only needs time. And when the dust finally settles, Nigerians will see clearly who stood for progress, who stood for justice, and who stood only for themselves. Governor Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, has demonstrated through his actions, not through propaganda, that his heart is firmly with the people of Kebbi State. He deserves our understanding, our fairness, and above all, our support.

As citizens who want the best for our state, we must rise above unfounded accusations and refocus on what truly matters — development, stability, and unity. Blaming an innocent leader for matters far outside his control only distracts us from the bigger picture and slows the progress we all desire.

May God guide Dr. Nasir Idris and strengthen his hands as he continues the difficult work of leading Kebbi State toward a brighter future. May the state enjoy peace, harmony, and prosperity under his stewardship. May our communities grow, our children thrive, and our people find relief from every challenge that weighs them down.

And may we — the people of Kebbi State — stand together with sincerity and goodwill, united in purpose and determined to help our governor succeed. For when leadership and followership work hand in hand, progress becomes inevitable.

Kebbi State belongs to all of us, and its success is our collective responsibility. Let us choose unity. Let us choose peace. Let us choose progress. And may God bless Kebbi State now and always.
