KEBBI STATE AT 34: CELEBRATING OUR JOURNEY, EMBRACING OUR FUTURE

On August 27, 1991, Kebbi State was carved out of the old Sokoto State, marking the beginning of a new journey for our people. Thirty-four years later, we look back with gratitude and pride at how far we have come — from modest beginnings to becoming a state known across Nigeria and beyond for its strength, culture, agriculture, and unity.

Kebbi is more than just a state. It is a land of opportunity, a home of peace, and a beacon of hope. It is a place where hard-working farmers rise with the sun to till fertile lands, where young people dream of a better tomorrow, and where communities stand together, bound by faith, tradition, and love for the homeland.

Over the past three decades, Kebbi has built a strong identity as the Rice Capital of Nigeria. From Argungu to Bagudo, from Zuru to Yauri, our fields produce food that feeds millions, reminding us that agriculture is not just our heritage but also our future. Beyond rice, our farmers contribute to Nigeria’s food security through fishing, livestock, and other crops, keeping Kebbi at the heart of the nation’s agricultural map.

Our cultural heritage shines just as brightly. The world-famous Argungu Fishing Festival continues to be a symbol of who we are — a celebration of tradition, strength, and togetherness. Our four great emirates — Gwandu, Argungu, Yauri, and Zuru — remain custodians of history, values, and identity. They guide our people with wisdom and foster unity across diverse communities. With more than 20 ethnic groups living in harmony, Kebbi truly reflects the beauty of Nigeria’s diversity.

This journey has been shaped by the dedication of past leaders and the commitment of the present administration. From the early days of military administrators, through the democratic leadership of governors past, to today’s purposeful governance under His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu (APC), each phase has added a chapter to our story of progress. Today, Kebbi State is investing heavily in education, healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and security — preparing the ground for a brighter and more prosperous tomorrow.

But the real heroes of Kebbi State are its people. Our farmers who work tirelessly under the sun, our traders who keep markets alive, our teachers who shape young minds, our women who nurture families and businesses, and our youths whose energy and creativity light up our communities. It is their resilience and determination that make Kebbi strong and full of promise.

At both the national and state levels, leadership continues to push Nigeria forward despite challenges. The Federal Government has remained focused on building a stronger economy, improving security, and creating opportunities for citizens — laying the foundation for states like Kebbi to thrive.

Here in Kebbi, the difference is clear under the stewardship of His Excellency, Comrade Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu. Since assuming office, he has brought a people-centered style of leadership that is both humble and decisive. His administration has placed strong emphasis on education, ensuring that the children of Kebbi have access to better schools and brighter futures.

In agriculture, he has continued to strengthen Kebbi’s position as the food basket of the nation, empowering farmers and opening new doors for trade and investment. Healthcare, infrastructure, youth empowerment, and security have all received renewed attention, proving that his government is committed not just to promises but to real action that touches lives.

What sets Dr. Nasir Idris apart is his ability to connect with the people — listening, engaging, and carrying everyone along.
